Perast with Our Lady of the Rocks and Kotor Tour

4 Hours

Explore the best parts of the Bay of Kotor including two the richest cultural towns on the coast of Montenegro including Our Lady of the Rocks, Perast, and Kotor.

More than just a boat cruise with iconic photo opportunities, this tour offers deep historical and cultural insights to the region.

The tour begins in Perast, a historic sailors’ town with narrow streets and Baroque palaces. Explore the famous stone houses and captains’ mansions, which stand testament to the wealth and power that Perast held.

Enjoy a short boat ride from Perast to Our Lady of the Rocks, a manmade island built in the 15th century. Legend has it that two brothers from Perast discovered a painting of Our Lady. Locals piled rocks around the sacred site and built a chapel dedicated to the Mother of God. This tour will take you inside the island’s church and museum. You will also learn about Fasinada, the annual custom of sinking rocks that expands the island each year.

After experiencing the Bay of Kotor from the water, you will have the opportunity to see it from other vantage points. Circle the Bay by car and stop at Trojica Hill for stunning views and photo opportunities. It is also possible to take a short stop at Risan, home to 2nd-century mosaics from the Roman period.

The tour finishes with a guided walking tour of Kotor. The Old Town of Kotor is a well-preserved UNESCO World Heritage site and a jewel of Montenegro. The town was originally built during the Byzantine era. Much of Kotor’s history remains visible in the town’s Medieval, Renaissance, Gothic, and Venetian architecture.

When is the best time to visit Montenegro

The best time to visit Montenegro is between April and early June, and again from the end August to November. These months are known to be not to crowded and still with high probability of very nice weather.
It still depends on type of activities you are looking for and which region you want to visit.
July and August are quite hot and busy, but this is period when you can enjoy water activities like speedboats, yachts, sailing tours on the shore, and hiking trips in the north of Montenegro where the weather is approx. 10 degrees cooler than on the coastline.
Winter is still good time of year to visit if you are looking for sightseeing tours or hiking trips on the mountains along the coastline.
